Upgrading

Under the provision of the Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologist Regulation of the Health Professions Act, an individual who has not practiced as a technologist/therapist for at least 800 hours during the previous 5 years is not eligible for registration and licensing in their specialty within the province of Alberta. 

Upgrading programs are available in several of the Medical Radiation Technology specialties to prepare candidates to re-establish their eligibility to practice as active, qualified members of the College.

Cross-Specialty Upgrading

Under the provision of the Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologist Regulation of the Health Professions Act, a member who has not practiced  in their secondary specialty for at least 160 hours during the previous 5 years is not eligible for registration and licensing in their secondary specialty within the province of Alberta.  These programs recognize that there is considerable overlap of competencies between specialties and focuses on upgrading only in the unique competencies related to the secondary specialty.
