Mission and Mandate

The mission of the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists is to serve the public by regulating our members to ensure safe, competent, and ethical diagnostic and therapeutic care within continually advancing professions.

This is further interpreted into two (2) subcategories: Public Protection and Professional Benefits.

E1 Public Protection

1. Competent, ethical practitioners - This is further interpreted to include, but not limited to:

          1.1 There is a valid method of assessing competency 
          1.2 All new practitioners meet minimum practice standards
          1.3 All practitioners re-entering their profession meet minimum practice standards
          1.4 All practitioners meet current standards of continuing competence
          1.5 All practitioners adhere to the ACMDTT Code of Ethics

 

2. Self-Regulated Professions - This is further interpreted to include, but not limited to:

         2.1 Members are aware of their professional obligations.
         2.2 There is a mechanism in place for recording complaints about a practitioner.
         2.3 There is a fair, consistent process for resolving complaints.
         2.4 The professions have control over professional qualifications.
         2.5 Professions establish education requirements for registration
         2.6 Professions establish entry to practice standards
              2.6.1 Professions evolve education requirements for practice.
         2.7 Members understand the value of self-regulation.

 

3. Governance Policy Influence - This is further interpreted to include, but not limited to:

         3.1 Specialties represented by the College have significant input in government policy-making

 

E2 Professional Benefits

1. Members have cost-effective access to professional benefits. This is further interpreted to include, but not limited to: 

         1.1 MRT members have access to membership of national association
         1.2 The profession aligns to national standards 
         1.3 Members in all disciplines have access to continuing education
         1.4 Members have opportunities to network
         1.5 Members have access to current professional information 

 

2. Public and member awareness of the professions - This is further interpreted to include, but not limited to: 

         2.1 Stakeholders (public, members and health professionals) are aware of profession’s: 

    • Specialties
    • Expertise
